World Book Day 2015!...Guess who came??...

A delightful 2 days of Workshops for World Book Day at The Hyde School last week! 6 Class workshops and a full assembly session! Ben and Jenna were busy working dogs!

Friday was dress as your favourite book character day for World Book Day and it was wonderful to see all the amazing costumes kids turned up in! Some went to great lengths - at The Hyde, a fantastic costume was Paddington Bear where the boy had the whole get-up - including a marmalade sandwich in his hat! And at another school - a previous school I have visited a boy turned up as Ben The Outside Dog!

Oh my! Could not be more chuffed. Not only had he decided my Book, Ben the Outside Dog was his FAVOURITE Book for a school project (Amazing! ) - he also dressed up as Ben for #WorldBookDay at school on Friday!!! And I do believe in an absolute BRILLIANT costume! Ben and Jenna are Super Proud!

Absolutely
loved doing the workshops - seeing children inspired and excited about writing and reading is just wonderful. I ran a competition for both days where the children were asked to draw their own story of Ben The Outside Dog, like a page in a book with a sentence describing the events underneath. The best picture was to win a copy of my book and a certificate! There were some brilliant, imaginative pictures - I will post them soon for you have to a look at! I reckon there are definitely a few budding Authors at The Hyde! I came out feeling inspired so I hope the kids did too!

My book has great longevity! Before you can read it, or enjoy the charming story being read to you, see the fun you can have by pointing out and counting all the different animals and birds featured! Then check out the fun games and cool animal facts and pictures you can see on the Ben website: www.bentheoutsidedog.com

Check out my gorgeous little nephew Theo enjoying my Book Ben The Outside Dog, pointing out all the animals and counting them! He does this every evening before bed - you can't make kids do that - could not be more happy that he loves it and reads it every night :)

Watch the video to see Theo Rothwell pointing out all the Animals and fun things you can see in Jenna Rothwell's new Children's Picture Book Ben The Outside Dog!

Tales of a Children's Entertainer 'You Just Can't Make Up:' Excerpts from Conversations at Children's Parties...“I didn't know Queen Elsa could make Balloons?!”

“I didn't know Queen Elsa could make Balloons?!”

Picture

Out of the mouth of Babes: Excerpts from conversations at Children’s Parties

Minnie the Clown and 4 year old Jack at the end/leaving of the party:

Jack, “Where do you live Minnie?”

Minnie, “I live in Clown Land.”

Jack, “ Is it nice there?”

Minnie, “Oh yes it is lovely. There are lots of colourful, friendly clowns there. I've got to go Jack sorry, I hope you had a great time! It was lovely to meet you! Hopefully I will see you soon.”

Jack, “Oh yes it was lots of fun. But I don’t see how Minnie, I don’t live anywhere near Clown Land.”

You can't disagree with that logic.

Queen Elsa and 5 year old Sarah

Sarah, “Is that you real hair Queen Elsa? “

Queen Elsa, “Of course it is. It is very long isn't it?”

Sarah, “But I can see a little bit of brown hair there.” (Pointing at the edge if the wig at the back).

Queen Elsa, “Oh I just need to go to the hairdressers to get my roots done, I haven’t had time recently. Before I got my powers, I had hair like my sister Anna so sometimes I just need to go and get my roots done.”

Little girls need some persuasion to be duped.

Queen Elsa and 4 Year Old Joseph

Joseph, “Oh Elsa I love you so much! I LOVE your hair. It is so beautiful.“ (As Joseph hugs me in a big bear hug then touches my hair).

Little boys can be duped

Queen Elsa and Mum to Eliza

Mum, “Is that your real hair?” (Really?!)

A discreet look to suggest otherwise

Mum, “Oh wow really?! It looks great and really suits you. “

Mums can easily be duped apparently

Queen Elsa and Lara

(During making lots of balloon models as children are arriving)

Lara, “Wow. I didn't know that Queen Elsa could make balloons!”

She can also dance, sing AND do magic Lara! ;)

Queen Elsa and Reuben

“How are you making those balloons?! You really do have magic Queen Elsa!”

T'is true Reuben! Speak to Lara.

Queen Elsa and Sarah

Sarah, “Wow. I didn't know you could Face Paint Queen Elsa!”

Elsa is blowing kids minds today ;)

Queen Elsa and Toby

Toby, “I’ve seen you before Queen Elsa. “

Queen Elsa, “Oh really?” (Thinking at another party, be careful how you answer this so as not to offend not remembering him).

Toby, “I've see you on my Ipad. “

They never fail to impress with their wonderful statements.

More excerpts soon... :)

A True Cinderella Story...'You can't make it up' Tales of a Children's Entertainer

1/13/2015

Oh I felt rather magical and special stepping out of the Minniemobile in my beautiful Cinderella costume for the first time! (It's been Queen Elsa non-stop for the best part of a year - poor Cinderella hasn't got a look in).
A young girl of 7 or 8 randomly was walking on the other side of the road in the pitch black at 8pm at night and upon seeing me, frightened her mother to death and making me beam from ear to ear by shouting "Oh my goodness IT'S CINDERELLA!"

I felt wonderful :) :) Cinderella had arrived at the Ball.

Reality of the Glamour:
I had half an hour to change from a clown in the pitch black in the car park and had to, very unladylike hoist up of my huge princess underskirt underneath the lovely Cinderella dress in the rain, next to my 'please don't let the dress touch it' vehicle and god hoped my wig was on right so I didn't get the never ending 'is that your real hair? I can see your brown hair at the back!' questions.

Upon finishing the party, which I might add seemed a success! I clambered into my car, laden with too many bags - with the bubble machine, stereo, magic kit, pass the parcel, prizes etc. (Don't you hate it when your partner is right when he tells you you should consolidate the bags - 'it's ridiculous carrying them like that.' Grr.)

What does a Princess of The Cinderella calibre do after the Ball?

She goes to Chicken Cottage of course. Yes. I was that random lady in the limp Princess dress ( without the underskirt) with UGG boots on and flat wig hair ordering some spicy wings.

Arriving home just before Midnight mind. Can't turn into a Pumpkin now can we?
